James Stahala
STAHALA
James Brown “Jim” Stahala, born September 23, 1930 in Yoakum, Texas, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on June 14, 2010 after battling cancer. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, John Dee and Celeste Brown Stahala. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Maggie, two daughters and their husbands, Sarah & Jon Seibert and Martha & Todd Nixon, and their mother, Suzanne Stahala. He is also survived by three precious grandchildren, Katherine Seibert, and Cooper and Spencer Nixon. Jim’s passing is also mourned by Maggie’s five children (Nita Coleman, Shirley Coleman, Kathy Webster, Josh Coleman, and Douglas Coleman), their spouses, and their children and grandchildren, for whom he was a beloved “PawPaw”. Because he grew up as an “only child,” friends were near and dear in Jim’s heart. He had many close friends, including childhood friends from Yoakum, Corp of Cadets buddies from A&M, co-workers at IBM, the MacPac (runners and walkers at McAllister Park) and others. He was a “people person” and a best friend to many. Jim graduated from Texas A&M University in 1953, served a two-year USAF commission in Japan before working for IBM from 1966 to 1986 in Houston, Corpus Christi and San Antonio. Jim was a talented musician, playing the piano by ear. He loved gardening, his large family, and he loved the Lord. He was a longtime member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. The family thanks the staff of Vitas Innovative Hospice for their compassionate care and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Texas A&M Foundation, 401 George Bush Drive, College Station, TX, 77840-2811. Please note on your check “In memory of James B. Stahala.”
